About Uncited Brands
The name is the problem we solve
Open ChatGPT and ask it to recommend a vendor in your category. Then try Perplexity and Claude. Then Google’s AI Overviews. A few names come back every time. Most companies never get mentioned at all. They exist, they have a decent website, some of them even rank on page one of Google, and the AI still talks straight past them.
A company like that is an uncited brand. We named ourselves after the thing we fix.
Search stopped being a list of links
For twenty years the job was simple to describe. Rank on Google, earn the click, win the visit. That world is still here, but a second one has grown up right next to it. Buyers now open an AI assistant and ask it a direct question. The assistant reads the web, decides which sources are worth trusting, and writes back a single answer. Your buyer often acts on that answer without clicking anything at all.
This changes what visibility means. Where you rank still matters, but it is no longer the whole game. What matters now is whether the model pulls your brand into its answer and names you as the source. That practice has a name: Answer Engine Optimization, or AEO. The broader version gets called Generative Engine Optimization. The label matters less than the result. When someone asks ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, or Gemini about your category, your name should be in the reply.
What we do
We get brands cited inside AI answers. That is the whole product.
Getting there is less mysterious than the acronyms make it sound. A language model cites sources it can find and trust, and only once it can cleanly read the page. So we work on each of those. We publish content that answers the real questions your buyers ask, structured so a model can lift a clean, quotable passage straight into its response. We fix the technical signals that tell a crawler your page is credible and current. And we build up the third-party footprint a model leans on when it decides who to trust, the reviews and mentions and reference pages that quietly vouch for you.
None of that works as a one-off. AI answers shift from one week to the next as engines retrain and re-crawl the web. So we run this as an operation rather than a project. Content ships on a schedule, gets measured against the prompts your buyers really use, and gets revised when the answers move.
How we measure it
You cannot improve what you cannot see, and AI visibility is hard to see. No off-the-shelf rank tracker tells you “you were cited in 40 percent of buying-intent prompts this month.” So we built our own way of looking.
We score a brand’s answer-engine presence with a framework we call TRACE. It maps how often you surface across the prompts that matter to your pipeline, and it captures which engines name you and how they describe you when they do. We watch that over time through BrandPulse, so you see the line move instead of guessing. When a competitor starts eating your share of the answer, you hear it from us, not from a deal you lost.
Who we work with
We do our best work with B2B companies that sell something considered, where a buyer does real research before committing. Software companies sit squarely in that zone, and so do technical services and specialist products. If your prospects are asking AI tools for a shortlist before they ever fill out your form, you are exactly who this was built for.
We are a poor fit for brands chasing pure impulse volume, or anyone hunting for a quick trick. AEO rewards content that is useful and credibility that is real. We can speed that up for you. We cannot fake it.
Who is behind this
Uncited Brands started with an engineer who spent years writing.
Our founder trained in computer science and then spent more than seven years producing B2B content in some of the least forgiving corners of the market: patent and IP technology, cybersecurity, enterprise software. These are places where one sloppy sentence loses a technical reader for good. Watching AI assistants begin to answer the questions that content used to answer made the shift obvious early. The same judgment that once made a page rank for a human now decides whether a model quotes you to a buyer.
That history shapes how we work. We come at this as practitioners who have shipped content and watched what moves, not as a team reciting someone else’s playbook. We would rather hand you a citation you did not have last month than talk to you about digital transformation.
Where to start
If you are curious whether AI engines are naming you or your competitors right now, that has a real answer, and finding it is usually the first thing we do together. Tell us your category, and we will show you what the engines say about it today.
